CURRICULUM INFORMATION

Year Group 3

TERM Summer 2019

Dear Parents,

Below is an overview of the curriculum areas we will be covering in year 3 during the Summer term.

It will be an exciting term as the children will be making their First Holy Communion.

Please continue to support your child with their weekly homework, reading and their Sacramental preparation.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact either Mrs Williams, Mrs Sexton or Mrs Donaldson.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

English

Information texts.  Children will be writing two information texts; a leaflet about the Romans and a fact file about an African animal. In the end, children will have created a class book on the Romans and African animals to share in the book corner.

Classic book study – Charlotte’s Web by E.B.White.

Children will be watching the film adaptation of the book along with reading the book. Children will then be writing their own rescue story based on the plot and theme of Charlotte’s Web. These stories will be shared with year 6.

Contemporary book from another culture- Gregory Cool by Caroline Binch.

Children will be exploring this story and inferring a characters feelings at different points. Children will be writing a letter home from Gregory’s perspective at the beginning of the book and the end of the book. These letters will be shared with children in our school who have moved to a different country.

Letters. Children will be writing a recount or a thank you letter of an event of their choice. These letters will then be sent onto the recipient.

Spelling, grammar and comprehension will be linked to and taught through the units of work on a weekly basis.
