Christ The King Catholic Primary School Learning, growing and praying together with Christ Our King

Music

 Music

At Christ the King Catholic Primary School, we provide various opportunities for children to enjoy and explore music. We want children to foster a love and appreciation for music as they develop through school. Music should be a way children can express themselves, giving them the opportunity to be creative.

What do we offer at Christ the King Catholic Primary School?

Music Tuition at Christ the King

Music tuition is available for KS2 children who would like to learn the following instruments;

  •  Flute
  • Guitar
  • Drums
  • Keyboard

This takes place in our music room in school.

Please ask the school office if you would like to find out more about music tuition.

                                     Music in the classroom

Within class, children listen to, compose and engage with music from different cultures and periods and will often perform to music and learn new songs for assemblies and performances.

In school, we offer the children the following music lessons on a weekly basis through Performing Arts Services (PAS).

  • Years 2 and 3 have recorder lessons every Tuesday.
  • Year 4 learn the African drums every Monday.
  • Years 5 and 6 have steel pan lessons every Wednesday.

Hymn Practice

Hymn practice is completed on a weekly basis and provides children with an opportunity to express themselves through song. During hymn practice, children learn new songs for Mass, assemblies and carol services.

Sunday Choir

Every Sunday at 9 o'clock Mass at Christ the King Church, children are encouraged to sing with the choir in the choir loft. Each week a different house leads this at Mass. This provides an exciting opportunity to worship God, as well as practice singing skills.

   Class assemblies and performances

Throughout the year, each class has an opportunity to lead a class assembly which is performed in front of the whole school and parents. Furthermore, different classes will participate in performances at Christmas, Easter and the end of the year.

Music Links

The following links cover making music, listening to children's radio and information/music from different composers, genres and parts of the world. Enjoy learning about music!
