Nursery children are exploring the alphabet and the sounds the letters make. When naming the object put emphasis on the initial sound of the word. When your child is able to independently identify initial sounds look for other sounds in a word. For example, "c-a-t, What is the first/ last sound you can hear?"
Use the pictures below to help your child identify different objects and the sounds they begin with.
Play lots of games using the pictures, such as I spy, memory pairs, sorting objects into words that begin with a particular sound. Have fun with sounds. This is great preparation for reading.
