Message from Mrs Hogan

Hi Class 14, Mrs Hogan here.

As you know, I am expecting a baby soon and today is my last day at school (well technically my last day working from home) and I wanted to say farewell for now.

It has been a pleasure to get to know you as a group and as individuals and having taught you all in year 2 I feel I have really got to know you all very well. I have had the honour and privilege of witnessing your development academically and as the brilliant young people you have all become. Your application to your studies in the current situation has been absolutely inspiring and you have proved to be very hard working, not only completing school’s set learning tasks to the highest level but also in following your own interests. You have learnt so many life skills that will stand you in good stead in the future. We are not quite sure what is going to happen in the next few weeks and how school is going to change but I know you will all adapt fantastically as you have done since lock down began. Your positive and mature attitudes have amazed me and I am so proud of each and every one of you.

You are now reaching a huge mile stone in your lives, leaving primary school and moving on to new schools and opportunities. I hope you will take with you fond memories of your time at Christ the King. Remember to believe in yourselves and strive for excellence! I miss you all so much and I wish you all the very best for the future. I hope I will get to see you all at some point before you all move on.

I will update you all once baby is here.

See you soon and goodbye for now.

Love Mrs Hogan x

Thursday 21st May 2020

Good morning Class 14.

We hope you enjoyed the fabulous weather we had yesterday.

Today is a Holy Day of obligation as it is the Ascension of Our Lord.  We would have been attending Mass if we had been at school so it would be lovely if we could all meet virtually for Mass at 9.30am today.  Together again as a school family.

Well done for those of you have been logging on to TT Rockstars the past week. Every point is worth it and it all goes towards our final score. Last push today as the competition closes tomorrow. Come on CTK!

Have another great day of home learning (summer week 4) and remember you can email us your updates and if you need help with anything.

Monday 11th May 2020

Good morning class 14. It’s Mrs Scott here again.  I hope that you all had a lovely bank holiday weekend. As you know, it Was 75 years since celebrations marked the end of the war in Europe.  It was a really special time for us all to remember the  sacrifices  grandparents or great grandparents made on our behalf.  We had an afternoon tea and I discovered more about my grandad and his brother who both served in the war. It was amazing to hear about the challenges they faced and overcame.  Did any of you celebrate with your family?  We would love to hear about you it if you did!

Well done to: Ciaran, Lola, Peter, Ethan, Joseph and Isabel.

It was lovely to hear from you all at the end of last week and to see some of your great work. πŸ‘ πŸ‘ πŸ‘

11.05.20

To all our year 6’s,

As SAT’s week arrives, it is not quite the same,

The tests that were printed this year never came,

The displays all still up; walls full of Maths ‘rules’,

But Year 6 looks very different, at present, in schools.

For some of you, happiness, lots of relief,

For others a sigh of pure disbelief,

That you worked really hard in advance of this week,

Expected and Greater Depth marks you did seek.

Algebra, fractions, the times table drills,

Inference, retrieval, in-depth reading skills,

Past, present, progressive… and all the SPAG terms,

You’ve practised and mastered them over the years.

Fear not though, the SAT’s, yes, won’t happen this term,

But remember tests don’t measure everything you learn,

Primary subjects are varied; you’ve always tried your best,

Any many of those skills that you’ve gained can’t be defined by a test.

So here at Christ the King, you’ve made us so proud,

We sit here with pride and we shout this out loud…

“Year 6 you amaze us, you’ve come incredibly far…

And we don’t need a test to see how amazing you are!

We miss you and are proud of each and every one of you.

Good morning Class 14, we hope you are all doing well.

Congratulations to our certificate winners this week.

Headteachers Award for Isabel and Secrets to Success Award for Jamie. Well done!

Today try to finish off any outstanding summer week 2 tasks so that you are ready to start summer week 3 next week.

Remember - if you would like to order a leavers hoodie, please contact the office team via parentlink@ctk.coventry.sch.uk

The deadline for ordering is half term.

Well done to Zach, Jake, Peter, Patrick, Jamie, Jessica and Callum for either tweeting or emailing in to let us know how hard they’ve been working at home.

Tomorrow marks the 75th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day - also known as VE Day. It celebrates the Allied Forces accepting the Nazi’s surrender from World War 2. The final document was signed on 8 May 1945. In the UK, we generally celebrate VE Day with a 2-minute silence. It gives us a chance to remember the sacrifice made by those who lost their lives and to reflect on the unimaginable pain and suffering caused by the war. And it’s for this reason that VE Day is still important today.

We may not be able to celebrate as we all planned, however we can still mark the day by celebrating safely at home. We have seen that many of you have designed commemorative VE day cups and have created amazing eye catching bunting to display outside your home. You might be planning a front garden party with your neighbours or having a traditional afternoon tea with your family.

However you choose to spend your bank holiday we hope you have a fantastic day. We would love to see any pictures of you celebrating so email them in to us or tweet.

Have a great weekend.

Best wishes,

Mrs Scott and Mrs Hogan

Don't forget to check out the BBC bitesize daily lessons pages every so often. There are some great videos and activities - particularly the maths fractions ones (4th, 5th and 6th May). You might find them really helpful if you find this area of maths tricky or would like to have a practise.

Good morning Class 14, we hope you enjoyed yesterday and it has been wonderful to hear how well you have all been working at home. We have seen so much of your lovely work and it is a pleasure to receive your emails.

Congratulations to our certificate winners this week!

Michael for the Secrets to Success Award and Zach for the Head teachers Award.

Have any of you been able to try the Speed Bounce Challenge yet? We’d love to know how many bounces you can do.

Remember today to complete any unfinished work from Summer Week 1, ready to start Summer Week 2 next week. Keep sending updates and if you need anything please email:class14@ctk.coventry.sch.uk

If you enjoyed watching the fossils video this week, the Natural History Museum are hosting a live lesson TODAY at 10.30am. https://www.nhm.ac.uk/visit/exhibitions/nature-live.html

Museum scientist Zoe Hughes takes a closer look at two familiar sea creatures with beautiful spiralled shells: the ammonites and the nautiloids. Millions of years ago, both animals could be found in the oceans. The extinct ammonites are known for their distinct and widespread fossils, while most people will recognise the shell of the nautilus as a bathroom decoration. What allowed the nautilus to survive where the ammonites didn’t and what lies underneath their shells? Should be really interesting.

Today is the beginning of May when we think about Our Lady.  Father Tom and Father John recite the Rosary every evening at 7pm.  It would be lovely if you and your family could join in at this time. Livestream: https://www.mcnmedia.tv/camera/christ-the-king-church-coventry

It supports your learning of a foreign language.  Maybe you could continue to practise your French at home?

Keep up the good work and enjoy your day.

Hello class 14.  It’s Mrs Scott again.  I hope you are all well and that you have managed to settle back in to home learning.

Today, try to continue with the summer term week one overview.  The live lesson produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company takes place today (11am - 12pm). I’m really looking forward to it - hopefully it will be an interesting lesson.  Try also to observe the one minutes silence today at 11a.m (you could join in with the live lesson straight after).  This silence is to pay tribute to all the key workers who have died during the Coronavirus pandemic.  May they rest in peace.  πŸ™πŸ»

Armonico have devised a series of online singing workshops called Sing N Shine which will be available from this Wednesday, 22nd April. The sessions will happen weekly at 2pm on Youtube Live and will be led by an experienced Choir Leader Patrick Stockbridge.  Please find below a link to a short video from Patrick explaining what it’s all about:

Good morning!

Congratulations to our award winners this week. Daisy for winning the Headteachers’ Award and Joseph for winning the Secrets to Success Award.

How is it the end of the spring term already? It is not how we all planned or thought it would be but we would like to say how proud we are of each and every one of you, including your parents, for rising magnificently to the challenge of home school learning. It has been truly inspirational to see how you have all embraced and adapted to the new routine and it has been an absolute delight seeing how hard you have been working – not just on your set school tasks but the variety and range of activities that you have completed have been outstanding.

Please ensure that you dedicate the next two weeks to rest and switch off from all school work. Hopefully this will allow us all an opportunity to embrace and be renewed by the blessings of the coming Easter season.

If you would like to continue completing activities over the Easter break, we have included some art based activities below that you could choose to complete if you wish to. We will not be accessing the Class email during the two week holiday but we look forward to hearing from you after the break.

https://www.ctk.coventry.sch.uk/mrs-skellys-arty-activities/

We really hope that you have a wonderful, happy and holy Easter holiday and we look forward to what a new term will bring.

Take care and stay safe,

Mrs Scott, Mrs Hogan and the Year 6 team

Ella for working hard on her school tasks but she also made curry and naan bread for all her family. Ella is also keeping a journal of her feelings and the activities she has been completing - a wonderful idea.

Hello Class 14. Hope you are all keeping safe and well.

Congratulations to the Headteachers award winner - Peter and the Secrets to Success winner - Jake. Well done to you both!

Can't believe we're nearly at the end of week 2 - you have all been really busy again and have been working so hard.

We want to say a big well done and thank you to each and every one of you and to all of your parents as I'm sure they've been helping you along the way. Thank you for all your efforts and your tweets and emails - we love to see what you're all doing at home.

Remember today to complete any unfinished work from pack two and the work on the week two learning page. If you need help with anything please email class14@ctk.coventry.sch.uk

Well done to:

Ciaran for writing a very thoughtful letter to our NHS staff and for also creating an interesting non-chronological report on a venomous snake called the inland taipan.

Jamie for completing his SATs papers but for also spending time going through them afterwards to work through any mistakes in order to improve for next time - a great idea. Jamie has also been playing some pool and table tennis and even managed to bake some delicious cookies.

Roxanne has been working extremely hard at home! She has been folding carrier bags to make them nice and tidy. She made lasagne for dinner for all her family with cupcakes and jelly for dessert. Roxanne then went on to tidy everything up, including doing some hoovering! Wow!

Jessica has produced a beautiful piece of work on her confirmation saint – Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. She watched a video on how to draw a rose and replicated this in her work – what a brilliant idea! Jessica has also been working hard on her week 2 pack of work but has also been spending time in the garden and doing some baking.

Jake for tweeting a detailed picture of his work on his chosen documentary – The Blue Planet. Jake has written some fascinating information about the blue whale and different types of shark.

Peter for baking some wonderful looking cakes. We also spotted you eating the leftover cake mixture too Peter!

As Catholics, we are soon to be entering the most important time in the Church's calendar. It is Palm Sunday this weekend and we thought it would be lovely if you could make a palm to help celebrate. You could use anything at all - paper, card, twigs, material, let your imagination run wild!

If you live stream mass online at 9.30am on Sunday (https://www.mcnmedia.tv/camera/christ-the-king-church-coventry), Father Tom is going to bless all of the palms. What a special thing to do with all of your family. We would love to see some pictures of your finished creations so please tweet them or email us.

Finally, enjoy your weekend. Get out in the garden, relax and most of all have fun!

Best wishes,

Mrs Scott and Mrs Hogan

Good morning children.  We hope that you had a great day yesterday.

Today try to

You might also

  • Say the Angelus with your family at 12pm ( see below for the prayer πŸ™πŸ». If you live in Coundon and open your windows at 12pm you might be able to hear the bells for this. This might be something we could continue each day)

Well done toπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
