Here at Christ the King we feel it is very important that parents understand how their child is being taught to read so that they can practise these skills when reading with children at home. We hope you find this Phonics page helpful and informative. If you need any further information please feel free to contact your child’s class teacher.
We use a phonic scheme called 'Phonic bug' which all pupils begin in Reception and continue to use until they are able to reach the required standards of the phonic screening test. Our improving phonic pass rates show the important emphasis we place upon this as the first step towards reading.
To help parents understand how reading is taught at Christ the King and the importance we place on teaching phonic skills, we run 'An Introduction to Phonics' workshop for the parents and carers of our new Reception children. A forthcoming letter home will provide further details.
