Year Group 5

TERM  SUMMER

Dear Parents,

Below is an overview of the curriculum areas we will be covering in Year 5 throughout the Summer term. We look forward to introducing the children to some exciting new topics including The Titanic and Majestic Mountains.

Discussion / Argument

Write a balanced argument. Zoos: Prison or Paradise?

Ongoing throughout the summer term:

Spelling and grammar lessons based on spelling targets for the need of the children and the expectations of the year group. These including spelling the National Curriculum Year 5/6 words and words with silent letters.

Grammar – using relative clauses in sentences, using a range of verbs tenses, use paragraphs to order and sequence writing, use descriptions to provoke a response, use subordinating and coordinating conjunctions, creating cohesion, using figurative language and using commas, dashes and parenthesis.

Weekly comprehension activities, differentiated according to children’s needs.

Also, children will be participating in Mass, class prayer service, collective worship and daily prayers.

Computing

Summer 1 :

Children will be learning how to use spreadsheets to record information and create graphs and tables. They will be presenting these to their peers.

Summer 2:

Multimedia and WWW

Children will be researching a topic of their choice using the internet safely and creating a folder to save to favourites. They will create a PowerPoint to present to their peers on their chosen topic that will include pictures, facts and statistics.
