Christ The King Catholic Primary School Learning, growing and praying together with Christ Our King

Week 5

The awards this week were as tricky to do as ever, but there were two winners for me who have both kept up their enthusiasm at home and are taking responsibility for their learning...

Thursday 7th May 2020

Gooood morning Class 8! I hope you are all doing well, had a lovely Thursday ------ or WEDNESDAY I should say, I am losing track this week children I tell you! I know I did, I enjoyed the sunshine in the late afternoon and went on my daily walk with Bella and we saw lots of rainbows still up in everyone's windows. We even saw a herd of cows in a field nearby, Bella wasn't very impressed!

Tomorrow is a Bank Holiday incase you are wondering why the awards are up on a Thursday.  That is because tomorrow is V.E Day which commemorates the end of World War 2. VE Day takes place on 8th May, commemorating the same day back in 1945 when the war finally ceased. On that day, people from across the globe flocked to the streets for parties and get-togethers, enjoying their freedom for the first time in six years. Many people this year have been making bunting or decorations with their family to hang up in their windows to show they will remember V.E Day. Maybe this is something you could do today to prepare? You should also say a prayer for all of those people who lost their lives, and think about the sacrifices they made.

Yesterday I had a special email from Kayleigh that I would like to share with you. There is a prayer in Kayleigh's family that traditionally all of the family members say before they go to bed- it is beautiful so I thought I would share it with you. It was written by Kayleigh's great grandmother who died last year at the age of 101. Please take a look below, you might want to say this in the evening before you go to bed.

Enjoy your lovely long weekend children and remember I am just a short email away if you would like to show me anything you have been up to or just want a chit chat!

Missing you terribly!

Wednesday 6th May 2020

Good morning Class 8! Today is Wednesday but it feels like the most Thursdayish Wednesday ever…I hope you are all doing well and had a good day yesterday. There were a few emails from some of you getting up to your biographies and R.E learning which is fantastic! Don’t worry if you haven’t yet completed anything from the mat, you can have a go at it today and let me know how you got on.

Now more than ever, it is important we know how to stay safe online. There is a link here https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/8_10/ with some information and activities you can access from home to think about online safety and how we can use the internet in a safe and informed way. I encourage you to have a look at this.

It also would be great to see some more of you using the EPIC reading online I have signed us up to. Copy this link https://www.getepic.com/students and enter the code vhz7101

After that, you need to select your name from the list and it will log you in. You do not have a username or password, just follow the same steps again whenever you would like to use it. There are tons of great books and audiobooks to listen to for free, so please please take advantage!

As today is Wednesday you can also take part in the Sing n Shine choir online at 2pm. You just need to visit the Armonic Consort Youtube Channel. Why not get the whole family involved? It will be live on the Youtube Channel at 2pm and you can find the channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/ArmonicoConsort

It is going to be considerably sunny today so try and get active if you can!

Lots of love

Tuesday 5th May 2020

Good morning lovely children, today is Tuesday so we are now on day 2 of week 5. I hope you had a lovely Monday and enjoyed some of the activities we planned on the learning mat for you. It’s great to see so many of you on TTRS still, our Holy Cross Mac Competition starts on the 14th May so get that practise in! A few special mentions from our friends in Class 8 yesterday…

  • Archie has been busy working on his instructions for how to plant a seed and even used numbered steps. Well done Archie!
  • Hannie has been busy videoing herself planting seeds with informative instructions, it was very good to watch well done Hannie!
  • Leah completed her Mathletics, Pronoun work and did some extra work on fractions of amounts in her exercise book. What a great idea!
  • Elsie produced a lovely biography all about Flora Drummond and included a newspaper report about her also, great stuff!
  • Marika has been working hard on her comprehension and TTRS, well done Marika.
  • Tobias made a lovely character description of Dog Man and planted more watercress seeds which he is now going to observe. Very well done Tobias!
  • Cillian created a detailed biography on Steve Backshall, who we all enjoyed watching on the last day of school! It had images and paragraphs dedicated to different parts of his life. Fabulous!

You are all continuing to make me so proud, well done. The sun looks to be shining from 12 o’clock so enjoy your daily exercise/walk/whatever you manage to do. I have added a message from the lovely Miss Bowen herself to the top of our class page so make sure you have a look!

Monday 4th May 2020

Good morning children, today it is Monday and another day of virtual learning. This week is Week 5 so have a look at the learning mat on the previous page and choose what you would like to do. Remember you can now follow the directions on the previous page to access the EPIC website online and audio books.

Week 4 was a busy week as ever, with lots of lovely work and activities taking place in your homes.

  • George has been busy over the weekend discovering new places to walk, and spotting horse and sheep. He has also been making his own lunch and helping lay the table, very important jobs to be doing, well done!
  • Wiktoria has completed her maths practice, mathletics and worked hard on her iBelong Book. She also planted many seeds which she can now watch grow. Great!
  • Jacob has been baking some delicious brownies in the wet weather, practising his spellings and created some fabulous instructions for his Science Project.
  • Kayleigh produced some illustrations for her instructions on how to plant a seed and wrote a brilliant account of the Resurrection using inverted commas.
  • Marika ticked off some of her growth mindset goals by creating some reports on her favourite sea animals, which were both informative and well presented. Well done!
  • Leah created a wonderful character description using expanded noun phrases on the Great high Witch from The Witches.
  • Cillian also produced a descriptive character description with a detailed paragraph all about his character’s personality and appearance. He also word processed his diary entry, using ellipsis and question marks to create suspense.
  • Elsie’s character description included many expanded noun phrases and is enjoying reading the book of the month from Waterstones. Keep it up Elsie!
  • I hope you all have a lovely Monday and enjoy the activities for Week 5.

Lots of love
