Bring your BOOK BAGS to school EVERY DAY.  Please continue to share home reading books with your child and write any comments in their reading record book when you have heard them read.

Good morning everyone,

We are in our final week as Class 2 and what fun we have had this year.  This week we will continue to have lots of fun and learning.  It's going to be a very sunny week so please remember to put on your sun cream and bring a water bottle and hat.

We are having a PTA tuck shop on Monday so bring some money to buy some sweets and other goodies.

Good morning everyone,

Another busy week of learning and using all the skills we have learned throughout the year. We will continue sharing the story Mabel’s Magical Garden and will the use our knowledge of writing good sentences;  capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and rereading our sentences to make sure they make sense. 
In mathematics we will be creating our own maps so why don’t you have a go at home and draw a map of your journey to school, a map of your garden, a map of a park or a treasure map. 
Don’t forget to put on your suncream before school, sun hats and your water bottles.

We hope you all had a lovely weekend.  In phonics we will be focusing up the trigraph "air" and using our phonics skills to read lots of decodable words.

In mathematics we will be comparing different lengths and problem solving when measuring.  We will also be playing hoopla and tiddlywinks where we will use our addition skills to find our total score.  Why don't you have a go at playing these games at home.

Good morning everyone,

This week we will be learning all about sunflowers.  Are you growing any sunflowers?  What colour are the petals?  Have a look around when you are out and about to see how many sunflowers you can see.

In mathematics we will be using our knowledge of number to solve addition and subtraction problems so keep practising your number bonds.

In phonics we will be learning about the trigraph ear.  Can you think of some words with that sound?  Can you find it in stories and other books?  Can you write it and put it in a sentence?

In RE we will continue to learn our prayers.  Can you say the Hail Mary and Our Father prayers?

Good morning everyone,

We have a very busy week.  On Monday we will be taking part in our sports activities with Mr Hadlum at the Scots Lane site.  Please put on some sunscreen in the morning, a hat and don't forget your waterbottle (further information is on the school newsletter).

This week we will be using our phonics skills and our knowledge of digraphs to read sentences.  We will also be focusing upon the story Mabel's Magical Garden.

In mathematics we will be focusing up odd and even numbers so on my way to school help me identify lots of different numerals.

In RE we will be learning lots of different prayers including Hail Mary and Our Father.

In mathematics we will be sharing different amount to discover how many we will have each making sure we have equal amounts.

Good morning everyone,

Welcome back.  We hope you had a lovely break.  Get ready for another fun filled and busy half term where we will continue to learn and develop new skills and knowledge.

In Mathematics this week we will be learning how to double amounts.  We will double the spots on dominoes, double different amounts, play doubling bingo and much more.  We will continue to develop our instant recall of number bonds including addition and subtraction (e.g. 3+2=5 2+3=5 5-2=3 5-3=2) so help me to learn them at home too.

In phonics we will be using our knowledge of our digraphs (two letters that make one sound) to read and write words.

Good morning everyone,

Well, this week we are going to preparing for the Queen's Jubilee and will be finding out facts and sharing stories such as The Queen's Jubilee and The Queen's Hat.  We will make a crown for our portraits, bunting for the celebrations and take part in our celebration day on Friday.  Remember to wear colours of the South African flag on Friday.

 

In phonics we will be consolidating the or sound so find it in reading books and in your environment and use it in your writing too.

In Mathematics we will continue to master our subtraction skills.  Why don't you show your grown ups how to take away and subtract.  We will also be consolidating our number bonds to 5 to include addition and subtract facts and will try really hard to have an instant recall of these facts, e.g 2+3=5   3+2=5   5-3=2   5-2=3

Good morning Class 1,

This week we will continue using the story Supertato to encourage us to write some amazing sentences.  We will create a wanted poster and will write labels and use adjectives to describe the evil pea in our sentences.  We will also be very creative and paint pictures of the evil pea too.

 

As the Queen's platinum jubilee is approaching we will do lots of fun activities to acknowledge this.  We will create portraits of her majesty as well as share stories about the Queen.  Don't forget it's non-school uniform day on Friday too.  

 

In Mathematics we will be focusing upon taking away and subtraction.

Good morning everyone,

We will continue reading the story Supertato and will design, describe and label our very own superhero vegetable.  What will you name your superhero?  What super power will you have?

In mathematics we will be adding more and finding out unknown amounts, e.g. there were 3 animals on the boat some more join them.  Now we have 7.  How many more animals joined the boat?

In phonics we will be writing sentences using the ow digraph.

Good morning everyone,

This week we will be reading the story Supertato and taking part in lots of learning around the story. Think about what superhero vegetable you would create. What would their name be? What would be their super power?

In mathematics we will be exploring shapes, rotating them to create pictures and using our words to describe them. 
In phonics we are continuing to focus upon writing a good sentence using capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, our phonics to spell words as well as using tricky words. Have a go at writing some at home.

Welcome back everyone,

We hope you had a lovely Easter break and are ready for lots of learning this term.  We will be learning about Spring in how our environment is beginning to grow and blossom.  On your way to school look at the trees how are they different from the trees in the winter?  We will add these changes to our seasonal tree paintings.

In phonics we will continue to learn and consolidate our phase 3 sounds and will use them to write words in our super sentence writing.  Why don't you have a go at writing short sentences at home.

In mathematics we will be sequencing numbers up to 20 starting at different points, e.g. 12, 13, 14, 15, etc.  We will also be counting on from these numerals and identifying missing numerals too.

Good morning everyone,

This is our final week of the Spring term and we have achieved so much this term.  Well done everyone.  This week in Mathematics we will be looking at numerals up to 20 and will be matching quantities to the numerals.  We will also be taking part in subtraction games.

In phonics we will be using all of our knowledge to read words so keep identifying digraphs and trigraphs in your words.  

To prepare for Easter we will begin to learn about the Easter story and take part in some fun Easter crafts.

Good morning everyone,

This week we will continue to solve addition problems and develop our instant recall of number bonds to 10 so ask me what two numbers make a larger number, e.g. how can I make 6? 0 and 6, 1 and 6, 2 and 4, 3 and 3, 4 and 2, 5 and 1, 6 and 0.  We will be making more complex patterns such as blue, green, green, blue, green, green (ABBABB) or head, shoulders, knees, head, shoulders, knees (ABCABC).

In phonics we will be focusig upon the digraph or.  Practise identifying, read and writing this digraph.

Good morning everyone,

Get ready for another busy week.  We will continue to learn about the planets in our solar system.  Can you name any planets?

In Mathematics we will continue to use use the skills we have learned over this term and will be showing how to make 6, 7 and 8, recalling how to make these amounts instantly, e.g. 4 and 2 make 6.  We will also be measuring different objects using cubes and recording our answers so think carefully about your number formation.

In phonics we will be learning to recognise, read and write words that contain the digraph ar.  Can you think of any words that contain this digraph?  Have a go at writing a sentence that contains this digraph.

Lenten Charities ‘Our Lady of Knock’.  If your child is in this house then please send in some cakes.

Good morning everyone,

This week we are going to learn about astronauts and what they need to take to space. We will also be looking at famous astronauts including Neil Armstrong. Do you know anything about him? He achieved something very special, can you find out what it was?

In mathematics we will using all of the skills we have learned over the last few weeks to solve problems.  We will making 9 and 10 using two different numbers, comparing amounts and ordering numbers.

In phonics we will be learning the oo sound.  This digraph makes two different sounds a short sound as in hook and a long sound as in moon.  This week we will also be working hard on our letter formation so keep practising and remember the starting and ending points of each letter.

Good morning everyone,

This week we will continue to learn about space. What would you take on a journey into space and why?

In mathematics we will be learning about 3D shapes and patterns. When learning about 3D shapes we will be identifying them; cube, cuboid, cone, cylinder and sphere and talking about their properties describing them e.g. curved sides, square faces, etc.  We will also be making patterns e.g. triangle, rectangle, triangle, triangle; square, square, circle,square, square, circle.

In phonics we will be using our phonics and tricky word knowledge to write short sentences.  We are working really hard to form our letters correctly so keep practising at home.

Welcome back everyone. 
Over the next few weeks we will be learning about space. We will share fiction and non-fiction books and will create some space themed artwork. Our story this week is Whatever Next. 
In mathematics we will be counting backwards from 10 and comparing amounts. 

We will continue learning our phase three sounds in phonics and will continue to read and write words using known sounds and our new sounds.

This week we will continue to read our story The Little Red Hen.  To build upon our previous knowledge and ideas we will write a short sentence such as The Little Red Hen is busy.  She has yellow feet. Don't forget to use your pinchy fingers to hold the pencil correctly.

In phonics this week our phase 3 sounds and will be ee.  We will also practise the previous sounds we have learned.   Remember to keep reading your tricky words and have a go at writing them; (there is a section in your homework this week).

In mathematics we will be learning about the numerals 9 and 10.  We will learn about different ways to show it (represent), sort it and make it (composition). 

Don't forget it is non school uniform day on Friday.

Good morning Class 2,

This week we will be reading the story The Little Red Hen.  We will be taking part in lots of different activities linked to the story. 

In phonics this week our phase 3 sounds and will be ng and ai.  These are digraphs (two letters that make one sound).  Keep practising all of the previous sounds we have learned and writing them correctly.  We are working really hard to write our letters correctly so have a go at home using paintbrushes and water outside (wrap up warm), chalk, crayons and even shaving foam and your finger. Remember to keep reading your tricky words and have a go at writing a short sentence.  Can you write a sentence using a tricky word and a word with your new sound?  Have a go.

In mathematics we will be taking part in lots of measuring activities including height, length and time.

 

Good Morning Class 2,

This week we will be learning about Chinese New Year and learning about this festival.  We will look at maps of China and discover similarities and differences between China and England.

In mathematics we will continue to find differenet ways to make 6, 7 and 8 and learn to match the different ways of making them, e.g 2 and 5 makes 7, 6 and 1 makes 7 so they are the same.  We will also begin to add more counting our jumps to find how many altogether.

Last week we went in a northern direction to explore the arctic so this week we are heading south and will explore the Antarctic.  What animals will we meet?

We will continue to learn about the season of winter this week creating winter scenes using different colours and textures.  

In mathematics we will be learning about capacity and weight.  We will fill containers and solve problems using vocabulary such as empty, nearly empty, nearly full and full.  We will also be comparing different weights of objects using vocabulary such as light, lighter, heavier and heaviest and will make some dough at the end of the week using a recipr to weigh different amounts.

In phonics this week our phase 3 sounds and will be y, z and twin letters zz.  Keep practising all of the previous sounds we have learned and writing them correctly.  Remember to keep reading your tricky words and have a go at writing a short sentence.

Good morning Class 2,

Our theme over the next few weeks is all about winter.  This week we will be thinking about animals that hibinate and other animals we see during this season.  We will use our art skills to draw pictures of winter birds and create winter pictures.

In mathematics we will continue to look at different ways to make 5 and use our counting skills to find out how many ojects there are altogether (total).  We will use our skills to solve problems such as there are 3 farm animals.  I can see 2 animals outside the barn.  How many animals are inside the barn?

In phonics this week we continue learning phase 3 sounds and will be focusing upon the letters w and x.  Keep practising all of the previous sounds we have learned and writing them correctly.  Remember to keep reading your tricky words.

Good morning Class 2,

Welcome back to school and get ready to do lots of lovely learning in 2022.

In phonics this week we are starting to learn our phase 3 sounds and will be focusing upon the letters j and w.  Keep practising all of the previous sounds we have learned and writing them correctly.  We will learn some new tricky words too; have a look at the list above.

In mathematics we will learn about one less and practising indentifying a numbe that is one less up to 5, e.g. one less than 4 is three.  We will also be learning about zero and different ways of making amounts up to 5.

Over the next few weeks our theme is the season of Winter. Prepare for lots of chilly fun Class 2!

This is our last week before the Christmas break.  In phonics we will learn the sound ss and will use all of our sounds to read words.  In Mathemtics we will be using all the skills learned over this half term and use them to solve problems.

Good morning Class 2,

We are going to have a busy week learning and taking part in lots of Christmas joy and fun.  We will continue to learn about Advent and will think about this special preparing time.

In phonics this week we will learning two new sounds (phonemes) 'l' and 'll'.  We will focus upon blending sounds together to read words using all the sounds we have learned previously.  Have a go at reading little cvc words (consonant vowel consonant) such as p-e-g peg, d-o-g dog, h-i-ll hill and other words.

In mathematics we will be learning about 1 more.  We will use cubes to build stairs to show one more and will go on a number hunt putting our numbers in the correct order.  Can you tell your grown ups what is one more than 4?

Good morning Class 2,

Wow! It snowed over the weekend. Don’t forget to wrap up warm when you come to school and if you wear you wellies then don’t forget to bring your school shoes to change into. 

This week we will be learning about Advent and will get creative making a class Advent wreath. 

In Phonics we will be learning four new letters (graphemes) ‘h’ and ‘b’ ‘f’ and ‘ff’. Keep practising your letter formation and listen out for these new sounds (phonemes 1 letter 1 sound or digraph 2 letters 1 sound) in different words. 
 

In Mathematics we will continue thinking of different ways of making 4 and 5 using counters. 
 We are going to have another busy week with lots of lovely learning.

Good Morning Class 2,

This week we will be thinking about things we can do to help look after the world we live in such as putting paper in our class recycling bin and turning off lights when we leave the room. What else can we do?

 

This week we will be learning four new letters (graphemes) ‘ck’ and ‘e’ ‘u’ and ‘r’. Keep practising your letter formation.

 

In mathematics we will continue to learn about the numerals 4 and 5 and the different ways of making these amounts, for example different ways to make four; 4 and 0 makes 4; 1 and 3 makes 4; 2 and 2 makes 4; 3 and 1 makes 4; 4 and 0 makes 4.

This week we will be using our different senses to explore some autumnal objects. We will create some artwork and write some sentences too. 

 

This week we will be learning all about the letters (graphemes) ‘c’ and ‘k’.

 

In Mathematics we will learn about numerals 4 and 5 identifying different ways of making these amounts. Why don’t you have a go at home too.

Good Morning Class 2,

We hope you had a lovely weekend and saw some fireworks in the sky.  Get ready for another fantastic week of learning.  This week we will be using our Autumn treasures to investigate and create some artwork.  We will be going on a walk to the Scots Lane site to explore the field and will draw some maps.  

 

This week we will be learning all about the letters (graphemes) ‘g’ and ‘o’. Can you think of objects and words that begin with these sounds (phonemes)?  Have a go at read short CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words with these letters and those letters that we have previously learned.

 

In Mathematics we will continue learning about the numerals 1, 2 and 3 and will describe shapes such as a circle and triangle counting the sides and corners as well as making pictures using these shapes.

Good morning Class 2,

We are starting the second half of our autumn term and are looking forward to seeing you all. Did you go on an autumn walk and collect some autumn treasures? If you have then please bring them into school and we can look at them and use them when exploring the topic autumn. 
We will be learning about bonfire night and will use our art skills to create firework pictures and learn about firework safety. On Friday we will be reflecting upon Remembrance Sunday and will make poppies. 
This week we will be learning all about the letters (graphemes) ‘m’ and ‘d’. Can you think of objects and words that begin with these sounds (phonemes)?  Have a go at identifying, saying the sound and reading words such as m-a-t, S-a-m, d-i-p, p-a-d. 

In mathematics we will be thinking about the numerals 1,2 and 3.  We will be making different amounts and recognising these amounts when shown in different ways.

Good morning Class 2,

 

We hope you all had a lovely weekend and had the opportunity to explore Mathletics using your login. 

 

This week we will be learning two sounds 'i’ and ‘n’. We will be learning to write the sounds, say the sounds and read the sounds. Keep practising all of our previous letters and sounds; ‘s’ ‘a’ ‘t’ and’p’  identifying, writing and saying the sounds each letter (grapheme) makes. We are starting to learn how to put our sounds together to make simple words-s-a-t, s-i-t, s-i-p.  Have a go at blend and segmenting the sounds to read words. 
 

In mathematics we are beginning to explore numerals 1 and 2. We will investigate different ways of showing these amounts and recognise the numerals too. 
 

Get ready for another fun filled week of fantastic learning.
